Kogen Ananda Keith Martin-Smith
Keith Martin-Smith (Kogen Ananda) is a 4th Generation White Tiger Master.
SiFu has been studying Shaolin and Northern style Kung Fu for 25 years. Before training under Master Jong Hoon Jeon, Kogen studied under the Venerable
Shi Yan Ming, 34th Generation Shaolin monk, in New York City.
He became a disciple of Master Jong Hoon Jeon in 2001, meaning he agreed to be trained in the demanding and traditional manner reserved for the most serious of students. In 2002 he was awarded the title of instructor and permitted to teach on his own, and in 2004 elevated to Da Si Hing (school leader). Kogen co-ran Master Jeon’s Philadelphia school from 2002-2005, leading 9 classes a week. In 2008 he was elevated by Master Jeon to a co-master, and in 2014 to a master. In addition to Shaolin Kung Fu, He has also trained in Hung Gar, Wing Chun, Jingui Qi Gong, and Tai Chi.
In 1996, he began studying the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) and took Empowerment and Bodhisattva Vows with Lama Tsering Everest in 2001. In 2007 he met Jun Po Denis Kelly Roshi, became a formal student of his, and was given the Dharma name “Kogen.” He was ordained as a Zen priest in 2012 and given the ordained name of "Ananda." In the fall of 2016, he was elevated to a "sensei" (recognized teacher) and authorized to transmit and teach the dharma.
He is also an award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction.
